From the Red Baron to catwalks: the nail jacket
The nail’s name is purely Italian and probably refers to the punk custom of keeping a nail in his pocket. It is due to the German aviator, Manfred von Richthofen- the famous Red Baron- the invention of the leather jacket, initially called “flying jacket” and adored by American pilots for strength and comfort. It was then also thought for motorcyclists by the brothers Shott: they called it “Perfecto”, inspired by the torpedo shape of the famous Cuban cigars. In the post-war period for the same reason in the 50’s adopted by the bikers who gathered in bands to participate in motorcycle speed races. Unforgettable Marlon Brando and James Dean in cult movies about the rebel generation of the time. And in 1960 Yves Saint Laurent also decreed its success on the runways. This coat of arms came to life in the 1970s with Vivienne Westwood, the birth of the punk style and studded jackets. Has since become an iconic piece of fashion, today perfect with the most varied looks.
